.NET is the (gTLD) Global Top Level Domain extension for Networks. It is considered the next best alternative to .com domains. Consequently there are no dictionary or keyword domains available. They're all taken as backup for the .com gTLD.
There is no differentiation in the search engines (Google etc) between the gTLD's. So any .net domain with the right content and (SEO) Search Engine Optimization can rank right up there in the search engine results with any .com domain.
